Robot Joint Motor Comparison (2026)

Quasi-direct-drive (QDD) actuators are the joints of modern legged robots, force-controlled arms, and exoskeletons. Here's how the four brands US builders actually buy — RobStride, DAMIAO, CubeMars, and MyActuator — compare on price and where each fits, with live US pricing.

How to choose

  • Cheapest capable joint → DAMIAO DM-J series or RobStride RS — great for SO-ARM/LeRobot builds and education.
  • Best ecosystem / documentation → CubeMars AK series (widely used in open quadruped/exo projects).
  • High torque for humanoid legs → DAMIAO DM-J8009 / larger CubeMars AK80.
  • Everything is QDD + backdrivable — pick by peak torque for your joint and by CAN-FD vs. the control stack you already use.
