How it works

Two ways to sell, with the same 45% commission.

In-person consignment

For sellers who can bring the item to 90 Welsh St, San Francisco, CA 94107. We inspect it, list it in our store, and hand it over to the buyer.

  1. Tell us about the item

Choose an option and submit the brand, model, condition, and a few photos using the form below. Submitting doesn't commit you to anything.

  2. We review it and propose a listing price

We may ask follow-up questions. If it's a fit, we'll propose a price for selling it on consignment.

  3. Drop it off for inspection

Bring the item in person to 90 Welsh St, San Francisco, CA 94107. If it doesn't pass inspection, it's declined on the spot and you take it back with you.

  4. Listed in our store as Used

It goes in the Robotics Center store with the condition found at inspection. Buyers pick it up at the lab; it's sold as-is. It stays listed for 60 days.

  5. You get paid

You receive 55% of the final sale price, paid within 30 days after we receive the buyer's payment.

Online listing

For sellers anywhere, including outside the US. The item stays with you until it sells.

  1. Tell us about the item

Choose an option and submit the brand, model, condition, and a few photos using the form below. Submitting doesn't commit you to anything.

  2. We review it and agree the listing with you

We may ask for more photos or details, then agree the price, your shipping cost, and the description with you.

  3. Listed on the Used Marketplace

It appears on our Used Marketplace, separate from the store and labelled as a third-party item held by you.

  4. A buyer checks out, and you ship it

The buyer pays for the item and your shipping cost through checkout on our site. Ship it, or arrange delivery, within 7 days and send us the tracking number.

  5. You get paid

You receive 55% of the item price plus the full shipping cost, paid within 30 days after delivery is confirmed.

Questions

Who can sell?

Anyone: students, labs, companies, and individuals. There's no student or identity check. Please only submit equipment you own or are allowed to sell.

Which option should I choose?

Choose in-person consignment if you can bring the item to our San Francisco lab and want us to handle the sale and handover. Choose an online listing if you're elsewhere, including outside the US, or want to keep the item until it sells.

What does it cost?

For both options, Robotics Center keeps a 45% commission on the item's sale price and you receive 55%. For an online listing, the buyer also pays the shipping cost you quote; that goes to you in full, with no commission.

When do I get paid?

In-person consignment: within 30 days after we receive the buyer's payment. Online listing: within 30 days after delivery to the buyer is confirmed.

Where is the item inspected?

Consigned items are inspected at our lab at 90 Welsh St, San Francisco, CA 94107, when you drop them off in person; we don't arrange shipping in. If an item doesn't pass, it's declined on the spot and you take it back. We don't keep it or offer a lower price. Online listings stay with you and aren't inspected by us.

Who handles shipping for an online listing?

You do. You quote the shipping cost when we set up the listing, and the buyer pays it at checkout. Ship the item, or arrange delivery, within 7 days of the buyer's payment and send us the tracking number.

What if an online-listing item doesn't arrive or isn't as described?

We refund the buyer, and you aren't paid for that sale.

What happens if my consigned item doesn't sell?

It stays listed for 60 days. If it hasn't sold by then, we'll let you know, and you need to collect it from the lab within 14 days. Items not collected after that may be disposed of or recycled by Robotics Center.

What do buyers get?

Consigned items are sold as-is, with no returns and no warranty, and are picked up in person at our San Francisco lab. Online listings are third-party items held and shipped by the seller. If one doesn't arrive or isn't as described, the buyer is refunded; beyond that, Robotics Center doesn't inspect or warranty them.

Do I have to accept your proposal?

No. Submitting the form doesn't commit you to anything. Nothing is agreed until you accept a listing.

How is the price decided?

You can tell us what you're hoping for in the asking-price field. The listing price we propose or agree with you takes into account the item's condition, what's included, and demand for it.

My item doesn't work. Can I still submit it?

Yes. Choose “For parts / not working” and describe the fault in the notes. If we can't take it, we'll tell you.

How do I send photos?

Paste links to a shared album or folder in the form. If you'd rather attach files, submit the form and then email the photos to contact@roboticscenter.ai with the brand and model in the subject line.
