What the Ranger Is Built For

The Ranger Mini is a practical platform: ROS2 out of the box, a flat deck that accepts arms and sensors, and a 10 kg payload that covers most research configurations.

Indoor AMR Navigation

Nav2-compatible with standard LIDAR sensors (RPLIDAR A2/A3, Hokuyo, Livox). Run SLAM, waypoint navigation, and obstacle avoidance on a single Jetson Orin NX mounted on the top deck.

Campus & Lab Delivery

The 1.5 m/s speed and 10 kg payload cover most last-mile delivery scenarios within a building or campus. Pair with a barcode scanner or RFID reader for autonomous package handoffs.

Mobile Manipulation

Mount an OpenArm 101 or Kinova Gen3 Lite on the flat top deck and use the Fearless Platform to record mobile manipulation demonstrations. The 10 kg payload comfortably handles both arm weight and grasped objects.

Warehouse Research

Test autonomous retrieval, shelf inspection, and goods transport algorithms in a warehouse-scale environment before deploying on larger AMR fleets. The Ranger's CAN bus interface makes motor controller integration straightforward.

Embodied AI Data Collection

Collect navigation and interaction demonstrations with synchronized LIDAR, RGB-D camera, and arm joint data. The Fearless Platform supports multi-modal episode recording at sensor-native rates.

Research & Education

Widely used in university robotics labs. Open-source ROS2 SDK, URDF models for simulation in Gazebo and Isaac Sim, and an active AgileX community make it easy to get started.

ROS2 & Nav2 Integration

AgileX provides an open-source ROS2 bridge. The Ranger registers as a standard diff-drive robot, so any Nav2-compatible package works without modification.

agilex_ros2_bridge

Official ROS2 package publishes /odom, /cmd_vel, and /battery_state. Accepts standard geometry_msgs/Twist for velocity control. Works with ROS2 Humble on Ubuntu 22.04.

Nav2 Stack

Drop the Ranger URDF into your Nav2 config. AMCL, SLAM Toolbox, and BT Navigator have all been tested on the Ranger Mini at SVRC. No custom nav stack required.

Simulation Support

URDF and Gazebo models available in the AgileX GitHub repo. Test navigation policies in simulation before running on hardware. Isaac Sim support via ROS2 bridge.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the AgileX Ranger Mini cost?

The AgileX Ranger Mini 3.0 starts at $3,790 through the Robotics Center store. The full-size Ranger (100 kg payload) is priced higher — contact us for a quote. Volume pricing is available for orders of 3 or more units.

Does the AgileX Ranger support ROS2?

Yes. The Ranger ships with ROS2-compatible drivers and is Nav2-ready. AgileX provides agilex_ros2_bridge for velocity control, odometry, and sensor topics. Compatible with ROS2 Humble and Foxy on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is the difference between AgileX Ranger Mini and full Ranger?

The Ranger Mini 3.0 is compact with a 10 kg payload — suited for research and lightweight delivery. The full Ranger carries up to 100 kg for heavier industrial or campus logistics tasks. Both share the same ROS2 SDK and differential-drive kinematics, so code transfers between platforms. The Mini is more common in lab and academic settings.

Can I mount a robot arm on the AgileX Ranger?

Yes. The Ranger Mini's flat top deck supports up to 10 kg, which accommodates lightweight arms like the OpenArm 101 or Kinova Gen3 Lite. The full Ranger (100 kg payload) handles heavier manipulators. SVRC has reference configurations for mobile manipulation combining the Ranger with OpenArm for pick-and-place research.
